Ronald K Onyango Advocates LLP in collaboration with Thompsons Solicitors Scotland, were in court on 22 December 2021 before Lord Weir, representing over 700 tea workers in an Application for Group Proceedings in Scotland. The case was lodged on 29th September 2021 against James Finlay (Kenya) Ltd for financial compensation and medical rehabilitation of its former and current employees.

The Application sought permission to be granted an Order for Group Proceedings. The workers complained of serious human rights violations which caused them debilitating injuries due to unsafe working practices, conditions and systems of work imposed on the workers in the Kenyan tea plantations, including working long hours up to 12 hours a day without breaks and had to harvest a minimum of 30kg (4st 10lb) of tea to be paid anything at all that day. The work included carrying heavy baskets of tea around the plantation and earning about £100 per month.
